Flipping is Hard Grid & Fridge Guide — Floors 6–7

Floors 6 and 7 of Flipping is Hard: how Grid magnets store jumps, how to cross Fridge ice, fans and the toilet bowl, and which NPC challenges live there.

How do you get through The Grid and The Fridge in Flipping is Hard?

The Grid (Floor 6) and The Fridge (Floor 7) sit between the Toy Chest and Blanket Fort Kingdom on the full ten-area route. The Grid revolves around magnets that bank a stored jump each time you touch one, plus pads, rails and conveyor belts. The Fridge swaps that for ice, fans and a giant toilet bowl. The route below follows ALittleTooSaucy’s full-game speedrun tutorial, which covers the Grid from 12:53 and the Fridge from 20:32.

Floor 6: How do you beat The Grid?

The runner’s skips are, in his words, “not the most optimized skips”, just ones he found himself (0:31). On a first clear, learn the normal route and add skips once you can reach The Fridge reliably.

How do the opening pads work?

Take the pads like normal. At one point the runner uses a small momentum high jump to get up to a higher section (12:53), then shows an advanced vertical pad skip: lean forward as you hit the pad, let go of the directional keys, press Space, then press toward the next platform (13:23). If you can’t make the ledge jump, go right and take the normal way (14:24). The controls and jump guide covers the basic jump and rotation inputs.

What do the magnets do?

The rule is simple: every time you touch a magnet, you get a stored jump (15:57). Jump at the end of the last magnet and you can land on the rail, which skips the first section of it (14:54). Further on, as soon as you touch a magnet you can jump and make it across (16:27). He rides the magnets like normal and does not bother with a risky jump toward the middle magnet, because a mistake means a long fall (15:27).

How do the rails work?

Rails give you speed. Small half flips on a rail add more, but a flip at the wrong moment throws you off the edge (14:24). Later in The Grid, jumping off a rail skips a small loop, though falling off at speed is easy (18:59).

What is the obstacle lane after the magnets?

The game first gives you a short test version so you can see what is going to happen (15:57). The runner’s advice for the lane that follows: get in between the obstacles, don’t jump, hold forward, and slow down if you get too close to the one in front (16:27). The narration doesn’t name them, so check the video to see what they look like.

How do you climb the conveyor belts and bars?

From the last magnet section, touch the closest magnet and jump to the conveyor belt part (16:57). Ride the belts up normally: the runner says there is “literally no difference” between his run here and a casual one. With the right magnet timing you can jump onto the bars above (17:28). He has never reached the highest bars; instead he builds momentum on a bar and uses a momentum high jump to climb on (17:58).

What happens at the end of The Grid?

The last stretch chains several tricks (18:29 to 20:32):

  • Take a magnet up, then stay in the center of the jump to fit through a gap (18:29).
  • Use a vertical pad skip like the one at 13:23: go straight up to land on the rail. If you hit the face of the wall, wall jump up into the rail (18:29).
  • Jump off the end of the rail to climb onto the conveyor belt (18:59).
  • On the next pad, jump as soon as you hit it to reach a platform. The runner points out a coin above it; see the Golden Horse Coins guide for what coins count toward (19:31).
  • On the following pad, don’t press Space. Keep the jump stored, hold back to kill momentum and aim into the narrow crack (19:31).
  • Then follow the course pad to pad. On one pad he holds Space to fine-tune the landing, then presses Space as soon as he hits the pad to grab a bar (20:01).
  • At the finish, time your jump to skip the momentum jump and get right up onto the cannon platform (20:32).

Floor 7: How do you beat The Fridge?

The runner calls The Fridge “pretty straightforward”: there are a few small skips, but for the most part you are just trying to survive (20:32).

How do you handle the first fan?

At the first fan the runner goes straight up to a platform above it, which lets him skip the next fan (21:04). He likes to save his jumps for the peak of the fan, which he feels gives a little more distance, though he adds that he isn’t sure (21:04).

How do the diet milk pads work?

Take the first pad normally. On the second pad, press Space as soon as you hit it. It’s tough, he says, because you have to do a wall grab, and ice makes that even harder (21:34).

How do you cross the butter, fans and super bounce pads?

  • Step onto the butter and time the fans. You might wait a second, but you should clear both fairly easily (22:05).
  • Or roll onto a fan and use your jump at its peak to clear both sections (22:05).
  • Next come a regular bounce pad, a super bounce pad and another super bounce pad straight across (22:36).
  • A fan then pushes you toward what he calls an “oddly rectangular hot dog”. Take the fan up, roll on, save your jump, then jump straight up and over (22:36 to 23:07).
  • On the next butter shelf, a small backwards jump slows you down. Time it so the fan doesn’t blow you off, then climb the sandwiches as normal (23:07).
  • A later fan can be jumped straight across, which is easier if you have a jump stored (23:07).

How do you cross the toilet bowl?

The runner calls the toilet bowl “mad simple”. Angle yourself toward it, “give yourself a couple jumps”, then stop jumping and ride the rim across (23:38). He says that once you know the ice mechanics you can finish the whole level in under five minutes (24:08).

Which NPC challenges are on Floors 6 and 7?

Steam lists four hidden challenge achievements for these two areas. It does not say where each NPC stands or what the challenge involves, so check the NPC locations guide for the characters from earlier areas.

NPC Area Steam achievement Steam description
Carl The Grid Take Me To Your Leader Complete Carl’s challenge in the Grid
Plix The Grid Pixel Perfect Complete Plix’s challenge in the Grid
Eggo The Fridge Egging On Complete Eggo’s challenge in the Fridge
Cubert The Fridge Ice Ice Baby Complete Cubert’s challenge in the Fridge

The studio’s Creator Hub points players to the NPC challenges for rare cosmetics, so they tie into the phone skins guide. All 16 challenges count toward the Challenger and I JUST LOVE TO FLIP! achievements; see the achievements and speedrun guide.

What comes next after The Fridge?

The next stop is Blanket Fort Kingdom, followed by the Recycling Core. The Recycling Core guide picks up from there. If you are climbing with friends, the multiplayer and Help Beam guide covers lobbies and the Help Beam.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do magnets work in The Grid?
In ALittleTooSaucy's speedrun tutorial the rule is simple: every time you touch a magnet, you get a stored jump. If you jump at the end of the last magnet you can land on the rail, and after touching a magnet elsewhere you can jump to make it across. He otherwise rides the magnets like normal.
Which NPCs are in The Grid and The Fridge?
Steam's achievement list puts Carl and Plix in The Grid and Eggo and Cubert in The Fridge. Their challenge achievements are hidden and named Take Me To Your Leader, Pixel Perfect, Egging On and Ice Ice Baby. Steam does not say where they stand or what their challenges involve.
Is The Fridge harder than The Grid?
In the tutorial the runner calls The Grid the place where a lot of runs come to die and The Fridge pretty straightforward, where for the most part you are just trying to survive. He adds that it is a simple level once you get the ice mechanics down. That is one player's view, not an official difficulty ranking.
How do you cross the toilet bowl in The Fridge?
The tutorial calls it mad simple: angle yourself toward the bowl, give yourself a couple of jumps (his words), then stop jumping and ride the rim across.
