Flipping is Hard — Frequently Asked Questions

Verified answers on release date, difficulty modes, 16-player co-op, and Phone OS mechanics.

Flipping is Hard is a 3D precision physics platformer (cozy rage game) developed by Elegant Horse Studios and published by Dawn Wood Games. It launched on Steam on October 16, 2026 ($14.99 USD, with a 35% launch discount at $9.74). You play as Flippy, a 2000s-era Flippia brick phone dropped down a storm drain by its owner Jeff.
Because Flippy has no legs—it moves exclusively by flipping end-over-end across surfaces! As the developers joke, 'He's a brick phone that flips, not a flip phone that bricks.' Every movement is camera-relative rotation combined with momentum-based jumps.
Flipping Is Chill mode enables checkpoints throughout the 10 vertical Trashlands levels so a single mistake won't send you all the way back to the sewer drain. Flipping Is Hard mode removes all checkpoints for the classic Foddian rage-climb experience. An even harder Flipping Is Insane mode is planned for a post-launch update.
Steam online multiplayer supports 1 to 16 players in the same lobby with built-in proximity voice chat. Players can use the Help Beam to pull fallen teammates upward, though firing the beam causes your own phone to bounce uncontrollably.
Press Tab at any time during gameplay to bring up Flippy's internal Phone OS screen. From there you can play 3 retro mini-games (Flippy Bird, Fanaconda, and Floppy Road), enter secret redeem codes, swap phone covers/charms/stickers, and inspect climb statistics.
